Sharon and Joe Salavec trace their love for each other and for cool muscle cars all the way back to high school more than 30 years ago. When they first met, Joe was driving a Boss 302–powered, four-speed 1970 Maverick, and over the years they owned several Camaros and a 1978 L82, four-speed Silver Anniversary Corvette. “All of the cars we owned were modified in their own ways,” Joe remembers, “including the Silver Anniversary Corvette. We had the Corvette for 25 years, but rarely used it. We were busy with our kids, with gymnastics and soccer games, and when we did have time, it would be a chore to get Sharon to go with me because it rode rough and was extremely hot in the summertime, even with the air conditioning on.” Given the issues with their Corvette, the Salavecs took notice when the Challenger was reintroduced in 2008.
